Great Scholarships for Eagle Scouts

These days, higher education comes with a higher price tag. These scholarships for Eagle Scouts will help take out some of the sting. 

 

 Hampden-Sydney Citizen-Leader Scholarship

Awarding Agency:       Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden-Sydney, Virginia

Description and requirements:            Any accepted Eagle Scout who attends Hampden-Sydney College are eligible to receive this scholarship.

Many in the scouting community are aware that Hampden-Sydney College has long offered a scholarship for Eagle Scouts. That scholarship is now increasing to $20,000 per year—a total of $80,000 over four years.

Hampden-Sydney is a natural fit for scouts, according to Vice President for Enrollment Jeff Norris. “Over their four years here, students hone their character and leadership abilities, learn through experience, and contribute to the lives of others, making this transformational education a perfect choice for young men who have achieved scouting’s highest honor.”

Award Amount:          $20,000 scholarship (renewable)

Epsilon Tau Pi's Soaring Eagle Scholarship

Awarding Agency:       Epsilon Tau Pi Alpha

Description and requirements:            This scholarship recognizes one incoming freshman each who is an Eagle Scout, has demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting, and has a strong record of community participation beyond Scouting. Applicant must have an SAT score of at least 1600 and/or an ACT score of at least 25. Locations include:
Appalachian State University
Augustana College
Georgia Southern University
Robert Morris University
University of Dayton
Western Carolina University
West Virginia University

Award Amount:          $500

Deadline:         August 15

Lindsey Wilson College Eagle Scout Scholarship

Awarding Agency:       Lindsey Wilson College

Description and requirements:     This need-based scholarship covers up to half of tuition. Applicant must be an Eagle Scout and a new, full-time freshman with a minimum ACT score of 24, a minimum cumulative high-school GPA of 3.00, and acceptance for admission to Lindsey Wilson College. In addition, applicant must submit letters of reference from a Boy Scout official and one other source, along with a written essay on how Scouting has benefited him.

Award Amount:          Five scholarships up to one half of tuition (up to $8,220 based on the 2008-2009 tuition rate)

Sullivan University Eagle Scout scholarship

Awarding Agency:       Sullivan University, Louisville, Ky.

Description and requirements:     Eagle Scouts with a 3.0 GPA or higher in high school and a score of at least 17 on the ACT, 1365 on the SAT or 16 on the APA are eligible.

Award Amount:          Varies. Up to $4,000 toward an Associate of Science degree

Deadline:         Last Friday in March of high school senior year
