A SCOUT LAW PRAYER
Oh God, we pray that You will make us Trustworthy, for there are those who have placed their trust in us.
Make us Loyal, for through loyalty we reach our highest ideals.
Let us be Helpful and Friendly, for each of us needs help and friendship throughout life.
Train us in Courtesy - for courtesy is the carpet on life's floor.
Make us Kind - for the world is full of your creations and every living thing deserves our respect.
Remind us that success comes to those who first learn to Obey.
Make us cheerful, for Cheerfulness makes our journey through life a pleasant experience.
Train us to be Thrifty in our wants and generous in our charity.
Give us courage that we might bravely face life's challenges.
Help us to be Clean in thought, word, and dead.
Make us Reverent to You and respectful of the beliefs of all people.
Guide us in all these things and never let us forget the promise
to which all Scouts are pledged. Amen.

OPENING HYMN: GOD BLESS AMERICA
God bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains,
To the prairies,
To the oceans white with foam,
God bless America,
My home sweet home!
God bless America,
My home sweet home!

FIRST READING: All Things Beautiful

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

Each little flower that opens,
Each little bird that sings,
He made their glowing colors,
He made their tiny wings.

The purple-headed mountain,
The river running by,
The sunset, and the morning,
That brighten up the sky.

The cold wind in winter,
The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them every one.

The tall trees in the greenwood,
The meadows where we play,
The rushes by the water,
We gather every day.

He gave us eyes to see them,
And lips that we might tell
How great is God Almighty,
Who has made all things well.

SONG: He's Got the Whole World in His Hands

He's got the whole world --- in His hands,
He's got the whole wide world --- in His hands,
He's got the whole world --- in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got the wind and the rain --- in His hands,
He's got the wind and the rain --- in His hands,
He's got the wind and the rain --- in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

He's got you and me, brother --- in His hands,
He's got you and me, brother --- in His hands,
He's got you and me, brother --- in His hands,
He's got the whole world in His hands.

Moment of Silence
May we now observe a moment of silent prayer, each in his own faith.

Everybody's Canoe...
A young Indian brave was busy at work carving a canoe out of a log.
As he worked, members of the tribe passed by. Everybody had a piece of advice to offer the young man.
"I think you are making your canoe too wide," one of them said. The young brave, wishing to show respect for the advice of an elder, narrowed down the canoe.
A little later, another warrior stopped by. "I'm afraid you are cutting the stern too full," he said. Again, the young brave listened to his elder and cut down the stern.
Very soon, yet another member of the tribe stopped, watched awhile, then said, "The bow is too sheer." The young brave accepted this advice as well and changed the line of the bow.
Finally the canoe was complete and the young brave launched it. As soon as it hit the water, it capsized. Laboriously he hauled it back onto the beach. Then he found another log and began to work anew.
Very soon, a member of his tribe stopped by to offer some advice, but this time the young brave was ready.
"See that canoe over there?" he asked, pointing to the useless craft on the beach. "That is everybody's canoe." Then he nodded at the work in progress. "This one," he said, "is my canoe"

CLOSING PRAYER
We pray to the Great Scoutmaster, that he will Make us trustworthy, for there are those that trust in us.
Make us loyal, for through loyalty we reach our highest goals.
Teach us to be helpful, for through helpfulness we forget ourselves.
Make us friendly, for there are so many who need friends.
Train us in courtesy, for courtesy is the carpet of life's floor.
Make us kind, for the fields and the woods are full of your creatures.
Insist on our obedience, for success comes only to him who first learns to obey.
Make us cheerful, for cheerfulness is the green grass near the pebbles in the road.
Train us in thrift, for thrifty habits enable us to be generous to those in need.
May we be brave, brave in the darkness and brave in the light, but save us from becoming impostors of bravery.
Help us to be clean in thoughts, in speech, and in deed; and may we remember all things that you have made.
Above all, help us to be reverent, not only toward you but toward all things that you have made.
We ask your guidance in these things, and that we may never forget the Promise which all scouts have made.

Closing Hymn: Scout Vespers
Sing to tune of: "Oh Christmas Tree"
Softly falls the light of day,
While our campfire fades away.
Silently each Scout should ask
Have I done my daily task?
Have I kept my honor bright?
Can I guiltless sleep tonight?
Have I done and have I dared
Everything to be prepared?

Quietly we join as one,
Thanking God for Scouting fun
May we now go on our way,
Thankful for another day.
May we always love and share,
Living in peace beyond compare.
As Scout may we find,
Friendships true with all mankind.
