Online Training Courses

You will find links to all of the Online Training courses such as Fast Start, Youth Protection and many other offerings for Cubs, Scouts, and Venturers.

E-LEARNING COURSES
These courses can help adult leaders deliver quality Scouting experiences to youth. A log-in is required, however anyone may create a user account and view the courses. Registered members of the BSA may provide their member numbers (as part of the user profile) to receive credit.

New Leader Training

The Basic Leader Training program is the culmination of more than two years of work by professionals and volunteers from throughout the nation. Their goal was to revise and update the volunteer leader training materials for the Boy Scouts of America. The result is a seamless training program that helps leaders easily graduate through the courses quickly and with little duplication.

TROOP COMMITTEE CHALLENGE

Troop committee challenge, the training course for troop committee members, is now a fun, interactive, and challenging online experience. To start your training, visit the BSA Online Learning Center at http://olc.scouting.org. The Challenge will take about an hour to complete, and it can be taken individually or with a small group.

Upon completion of the Troop Committee Challenge, a Scouter can print out a certificate of completion. This training will be recorded on the Scouter’s training record.

YOUTH AND ADULT TRAINING AT PHILMONT

There are a number of conferences held at the Philmont Training Center each year on a wide variety of subjects. If you are interested in being invited, please check out the website  and let Carleton Star know you want to be invited!

In 2008 the NAYLE youth leadership course will be offered 8 times between the weeks of June 15 and August 3. The course has been acclaimed by youth who have completed NYLT (Council Leadership Training) as being life-changing. Michael Bledsoe of our Council attended two years ago and was on staff last year. The course is the highest level of leadership training for youth in the BSA Program. The Program is based at the Rocky Mountain Scout Camp and requires a Philmont Level A Medical Form.

Also in 2008, the Philmont Leadership Challenge Course will offer its pilot session the week of September 21. This adult program is open to those who have completed or staffed 21st Century Wood Badge. It was created based upon the demand from Scouters whose youth attended NAYLE and wanted a similar experience. It will be the highest level of leadership training offered to adults in the BSA Program and is an experiential course built upon Wood Badge skills. The Program is based at the Rocky Mountain Scout Camp and requires a Philmont Level A Medical Form.
