Wood Badge is Scouting's premier training course.  Baden-Powell designed it so that Scouters could learn, in the most practical way possible, the skills and methods of Scouting, which are first and foremost: learning by doing.  The members of the course are formed into patrols and these patrols are formed into a troop. The entire troop lives in the out-of-doors camping, cooking their own meals, and practicing Scout skills.

What’s New?

There have been many questions concerning the “new” wood badge course. Some of the changes include:

  • A single more contemporary training program for cub scout, boy scout and venture leaders.

  • An increase focus on leader ship and people skills.

  • A 2 weekend, as opposed to a 3 weekend program.

  • An ability to experience the different programs and goals of scouting

What's the Same

With all this talk of changes, has anything remained the same? Sure, some of the continued Wood Badge traditions include:

  • Excellent instruction in important skills.

  • An introduction to some basic scouting skills.

  • The awarding of “beads” after completing your ticket. A couple weekends full of  fun and tom-foolery.

WOOD BADGE RECOGNIZED

Our local Wood Badge course has been approved for in-house office management credits by the West Virginia Bar Association. This means that all attorneys who attend Wood Badge receive continuing education credits.

What a great endorsement! This is almost half the annual requirement needed by attorneys in the office management area. Wood Badge really is this good… and other groups recognize the course as such.

Plan to attend Wood Badge July 25-27, 2008 and August 1-3, 2008 at Camp Chief Logan to become as well trained as you possibly can.
