Dear Scouters,
This will be my last message from the Scout Executive. It has
truly been an honor and pleasure serving the Scouts, Leaders, parents and Board members
of the Buckskin Council. It has been a highlight in my 40 years as a professional Scouter.
For 18 years my family and I have called West Virginia home. My sons Tanner and Tucker
are both Buckskin Council Eagle Scouts. They graduated from high school and college in
West Virginia. My wife Jane (Elizabeth) spent the past 18 years working at CAMC
Obstetrics and Gynecology Center. She is also retiring soon after a very rewarding 45 plus
year career as a Certified Nurse Midwife (advanced practice nurse).
I hope I leave Buckskin Council a little better than when I arrived. It’s hard for me to tell,
though. We have had significant challenges, obstacles, hurdles and setbacks along the trail.
But one thing has remained constant. The volunteers and staff of the Buckskin Council
continuously “Do your Best”. You have outperformed, out worked, out played and out
Scouted every other Scout Council in the country. I tried my best to keep up with you, but
the pace and expectations here in West Virginia are simply at the highest level. Well done
Buckskin Council, well done.
My final thoughts are this. Please continue the mission of Scouting. Please afford my
replacement with the same courtesy, support and grace you have provided me. Please
remember that every 4 years, Scouts and leaders across our country come to the heart of
the Buckskin Council for the National Jamboree. I believe the heartbeat of Scouting is here!
This is Scout Country!
God Bless.
