Events

The Council’s annual adult and youth training event – the University of Scouting – will be held Saturday, March 14th at WV State University. Scouts have a wide variety of merit badges to choose from. A wide selection of intermediate training sessions will be offered for adults. These sessions will assist adults in planning, organizing and conducting den and pack meetings, as well as troop and crew events and activities.

Wilderness First Aid is required for backcountry trips and excursions. “Backcountry” is defined as anywhere that medical care is one hour or more away. A Wilderness First Aid Course will be taught March 20-21, 2020, at Camp Kootaga. Certification is provided through Emergency Care and Safety Institute (ECSI).

The truth is that young people can achieve more than they believe is possible. Scouting uniquely prepares its members to redefine their boundaries, push past them and emerge from the experience with the confidence that no matter the challenge, they can meet it. Nothing is impossible for the prepared young person — no future is out of reach for a group of committed people who care. It’s important to signal that the limits people perceive are self-imposed, and that with an embrace and application of the 12 points of the Scout Law and three points of the Scout Oath, there is a bright and positive future.
