As Scouts, we know how fortunate we are to have a warm meal every night — whether around the campfire or at the kitchen table. And we know that not everyone is so lucky. That’s the genesis of Scouting for Food, the annual food-collection drive run by the council. It’s another reminder to our local communities that Scouts are doing good turns.
Scouting for Food takes place on two consecutive weekends. On the first weekend, Scouts distribute bags to let their neighbors know about the drive. On the second weekend, Scouts revisit those houses to pick up bags full of canned food, cereal, pasta, peanut butter, juice and other nonperishable items.
Units in the Buckskin Council participate in this annual Good Turn every November. While your unit may choose the weekends that best fit your schedule, Buckskin Council's designated dates are November 7th and 14th.
Stop by the Wehrle Service Center, Huntington Scout Shop or Parkersburg Scout Shop to get bags.
After your Scouts have collected the donations, take these items to a food pantry of your choice right in your neighborhood. Be sure to let us know how much food your unit collected and donated by filling out THIS FORM and returning it to us.
