Scouting America depends on the leadership of its volunteers. The Buckskin Council will honor it's volunteers, 2025 Eagle Scouts, and 2025 Silver Beaver recipients at our Volunteer Recognition Dinner. The Eagle Scout Award is the highest award a Scout may earn. All 2025 Eagle Scouts are invited. The Silver Beaver is the highest award that Buckskin Council may bestow on a volunteer and recognizes Scouters of exceptional character who have provided distinguished service within the council. We invite everyone to come and celebrate with us.

Christ United Methodist Church (1221 Quarrier St., Charleston, WV) starting at 6:17 p.m.

The doors open at 5:15 pm and dinner begins promptly at 6:17 pm.

The fee is $15 per person. Registration closes March 7, 2026. If you want to sign up after March 7th, you must call the Wehrle Service Center at 304-340-3663. A late fee will apply.

Silver Beaver Nominations

The Buckskin Council is accepting nominations for the Silver Beaver Award. If you know someone who is worthy, please fill out the nomination form and send it to the Buckskin Council, 2829 Kanawha Blvd. E, Charleston, WV 25311.

Silver Beaver: The Silver Beaver Award recognizes Scouters exemplify the ideals of Scouting both in and out of the Scouting circle. The Silver Beaver Award is a National Award and the highest award that can be presented to a volunteer on a council level. Nominations are due immediately. Marshall University Merit Badge College

One of the largest single day Scouting events in the Council, Marshall University Merit Badge College attracts scouts not just from Buckskin Council, but from surrounding councils as well. How many merit badges will be offered? Close to fifty merit badges will be available. From Fingerprinting and First Aid to Programming and Nuclear Science, you’ll find a merit badge that will engage you. Scouts may register for up to two merit badges being offered. We are adding Citizenship in Society to our merit badge offering. Register early for best merit badge selection.

The fee is $15 per scout which includes lunch. Adults may purchase a optional lunch ticket for $10.

Adult training will be offered, most with no fee, including Safeguarding Youth Training and Merit Badge Counselor Orientation. Basic First Aid, AED and CPR will again be offered, with a fee of $50.00.

Buckskin Council is partnering with the Marshall University Aviation Department to offer an Aviation Merit Badge Day at the Marshall University Bill Noe Flight School at Yeager Airport in Charleston, WV.

The Merit Badge Day is Saturday, March 7, 2026. Check-in begins at 9:00am. The session will run from 9:30am to 1:00pm. The session is limited to 30 scouts.

All Aviation Merit Badge Requirements will be covered by the instructors, but scouts will be expected to complete requirement 5 as a pre-requisite for the session.

Registration fee is $5.00 per scout. Adults may attend at no charge and should register as well.

Yeager Airport is located at 100 Airport Road #175, Charleston, WV. If coming via I-64, take exit 99 to WV-114/Greenbrier St. Follow WV-114/Greenbrier St to Airport Road. Follow the signs to the flight school building.

Takhonek Lodge Leadership Development

There is no fee for this event, however you must register so we know how many to prepare for.

Takhonek Lodge's Leadership Development will be Saturday, February 14th at the Wehrle Service Center in Charleston. The session begins at 9:00 am. We plan to wrap up after lunch around 2:00 or 2:30 pm.

Who should attend the Lodge Leadership Development (LLD)? The LLD is open to any member of the lodge who would like to gain a better understanding of the lodge and lodge operations. Those that are required to attend are the 2026 lodge officers, committee chairpersons, chapter chiefs, and all adult advisers for the listed youth positions. We will be learning the duties of the officers, passing along valuable information to the officers, and planning critical details for the year.

A light breakfast, Lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided. The event is FREE, but we ask that you register so we have an idea of how many to plan for lunch.

National Council Approves Family Troops

The “Family Troop” option has been approved and becomes available to all chartering organizations as a third option on December 15th, 2025. Troops will continue to be able to organize as boy troops and girl troops. The National Scouts BSA Committee has prepared an Intent to Convert form for all troops intending to convert to the family troop model.

With enormous gratitude for their work, the troops participating in the combined troop pilot may continue to operate as family troops. At this time, all “hold” troops in the pilot do not need to be rechartered.

If pilot troops would like to continue using the pilot combined/family model, your combined pilot troops should now convert from pilot troops to family troops using the Intent to Convert form. Your unit should submit the Intent to Convert forms to your council registrar. They are for local use only; do NOT send them to the National Office. You may drop your pilot "hold" unit at this time. If you have already rechartered your "hold" unit for 2026, contact the council.

If you would like to revert to your pre-pilot boy and girl troops, please use the Converting from a Family Troop and work with your local council registrar to process the change.
