The Summit Bechtel Scout Reserve
October 3-5, 2026
The Summit Bechtel Reserve (or “The Summit,” for short) is a unique Scouting facility with an expansive main property spanning over 10,000 acres. One of the reasons Scouting America chose this site for the Summit was its adjacency to New River Gorge National River. More than 13 miles of the property borders the park, giving Scouts and Scouters access to more than 70,000 acres of managed wilderness beyond the Summit property.
Buckskin Council is having a Cub Scout Family Camp and a Council-wide Camporee at the Summit. Separate camping and program areas will be set aside for the Family Camp and for the troops and crews who will be participating in the Camporee. Final program activities are still being developed for each event.
Lots of fun activities will be available for campers, including BB Shooting, Archery, Fishing, and Boating. Ziplining and Climbing will both be available for a additional fee.
Check-in begins Friday evening. Saturday check-in is also offered for those attending just the activity day. Check-out will occur on Sunday.
Fees are dependent on your level of participation.
- Camping: $20 per person – activities all day Saturday, 2 nights of camping at the Summit and 3 meals on Saturday.
- Saturday only: $8 per person – activities all day, no camping, and lunch only Saturday.
- Ziplining: $10 per person (most pre-register, limited number of tickets available)
- Climbing Wall: $10 per person (most pre-register, limited number of tickets available)
